Walden Horseback Riding

Horse lovers unite! And wallow in the sweet smell of oats and hay at Walden’s stables. Learning to ride a horse is as easy as swinging a leg over the saddle and taking up the reins! Walden's stellar riding staff takes over from there. With camp-owned horses schooled especially for kids, a spacious stable and four instructional rings, the riding program has been a popular activity for decades. Classes emphasize English-saddle techniques, working from basic dressage to jumping. Campers also learn to groom and saddle the horses.

Walden offers western-saddled riding trips to nearby camp sites. Horse-lovers may join Walden's Pony Club, providing extra opportunities to ride and work with the horses in Stable Management classes.

Campers in the Riding Program strut their
stuff in horse shows at the end of each
two- and four-week session, and advanced
riders perform in jumping, pairs and
drill-team exhibitions.

SAFETY CHECK: Riding helmets are mandatory
and provided by camp. Long pants and
hard-soled shoes are also required when riding.
