Outdoor Adventures

When you’re at Walden, you’ve got easy access to some of the best overnight camping and backpacking the Midwest has to offer. Kids venture outside of camp to northern Michigan’s (and Canada’s) most scenic spots under the leadership of an experienced tripping staff: Picture Rocks National Seashore, Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, Tahquamenon Falls, Seney Wildlife Refuge, etc. One- to three-night outings are typical.

Teenaged campers have the opportunity to spend the day at a nearby ropes course and climbing-wall facility where they take part in team-building exercises and (if they dare!) brave a 300-foot zip line. Classes in mountain biking let kids explore the numerous trails that run through camp*. They also offer day and overnight trips to nearby Black Mountain, Ocqueoc Falls and Boise Blanc Island.
