Spending a summer as a member of the Walden staff isn’t just a job. It’s an experience you’re likely to carry with you for many years to come. Our staff often tell us that their summers here are the most memorable of their lives—where their contemporaries, both foreign and domestic, became their llifelong friends. That said, camp counseling is probably among the most challenging summer jobs you will ever have—a 24-hour-a-day commitment. At Walden, we expect our staff’s number one priority to be the safety and security of our campers. The best staff, and those who get the most out of the experience, are those who have a strong desire to work with children and are committed to making their summer unforgettable. You will be the counselor the camper recalls years later as having had an impact in their life. In the “off-season” we are teachers, doctors, students, business people, world travelers and artists. But what we all have in common is a desire to work with children combined with a love of the natural environment.

General Job Description:

• Jobs begin in June and end, with few exceptions, in August.
  
  
• Candidates must have at least one year of college or equivalent.
  
  
• Except for some administrators and area directors, staff members live with the campers in cabins. All cabins have indoor plumbing and electricity.
  
  
• Counselors have time off during each day and one day off a week.
  
  
• Walden has a zero tolerance drug and alcohol policy on camp grounds and the administration reserves the right to drug test all employees.
  
  
• Email and Internet access are available at specific times during the day and evening and there is a staff lounge with TV and DVD player.

Pay is competitive and varies depending on experience and background.
