Make your Summer MATTER!
Spending a summer as a member of the Walden staff isn’t just a job. It’s an experience you’re likely to carry with you for many years to come. Our staff often tell us that their summers here are the most memorable of their lives.
That said, camp counseling is probably among the most challenging summer jobs you will ever have—a 24-hour-a-day commitment. At Walden, we expect our staff’s number one priority to be the safety and security of our campers.
The best staff, and those who get the most out of the experience, are those who have a strong desire to work with children and are committed to making their summer unforgettable. You will be the counselor the camper recalls years later as having had an impact in their life.
Salaries... are competitive and based on experience and qualifications/certifications.
2014 jobs begin June 14 and end, with few exceptions, August 9.
Candidates must have at least one year of college or the equivalent.
Except for some administrators and area directors, staff members live in cabins with campers, ages 7-16. All cabins have indoor plumbing and electricity.
Cabin counselors are also activity instructors and bring to camp talents in one of many areas: land/water sports, performing/visual arts, horseback riding, media, science and more.
Counselors have time off during each day and one day off a week. Walden is located in Northern Michigan, near many beautiful natural landmarks and summer vacation towns, which our staff enjoy during their time off.
Walden has a zero tolerance drug and alcohol policy on camp grounds and the administration reserves the right to drug test all employees.
Email and Internet access are available at specific times during the day and evening and there is a comfortable staff lounge with TVs and DVD players, games, and books.
