Co-Directors

Liz Stevens, Larry and Ina’s daughter, and her husband, Scott Ruthart joined camp as co-directors in June 2006.

Liz grew up at Walden as a camper, counselor and unit programmer. After graduating from the University of Michigan and Northwestern University, she embarked on an award-winning 15-year career in journalism. Liz has been a staff writer for both the Detroit News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, and is currently pursuing her teaching certification.

Scott, a native Texan who mysteriously lacks an accent, spent seven years teaching in the public schools before returning to school himself for a master’s degree in social work, which he received in 2000. The last six years he has worked on the county level writing and managing federal grants for human services, homelessness in particular.

Scott and Liz reside in Fort Worth,
Texas, where they operate Walden's
Texas office in the winter months.
They have a 7-year-old son Max,
whose favorite camp activities include
fishing, kayaking and Havey's
Birthday Bingo. The family dogs, Dante
and Sophie
enjoy chasing chipmunks
and tennis balls.
